Veterinarian/Medical Director

Location: Reno Nevada

Description: SPCA of Northern Nevada is presently looking of Veterinarian/Medical Director right now, this occupation will be placed in Nevada. Job Relationships: Reports to Executive Director, provides supervision for all veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and volunteers. Job Summary: Responsible for daily care and sterilization of all surgical patients and maintenance of medical protocol. Quality patient care is first and foremost.

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced MASH style clinic operating in a variety of facilities, located in various locations as determined by Executive Director.
  • Supervise veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants and volunteer personnel.
  • Oversee set up and break down of transported medical equipment and supplies.
  • Examine animals pre-op to determine their ability to undergo surgery.
  • Perform an average of 30-40 high quality, high volume spay/neuter surgical procedures per clinic day (approximately 5-7-minute cat spays and 12-15 minute dog spays) using techniques as defined by organization.
  • Follow written and verbally communicated Standard Operating Procedures as determined by the SPCA of Northern Nevada.
  • Perform post-op examinations as necessary to ensure appropriate recovery from anesthesia and surgery. •Supervise post-op rechecks and order medical treatments as necessary to ensure complete surgical recovery.
  • Vaccinate animals and provide recommendations for follow up care. •Institute disinfection protocols for prevention of infectious/zoonotic disease.
  • Remain current on safe and efficacious medical protocols regarding anesthesia and surgery by participating in Continuing Education courses.
  • Supervise handling and recording of controlled substances by veterinary technicians.
  • Actively promote spay and neuter, and educate clients on responsible animal ownership.
  • Actively support associate staff and volunteers and promote the development of skills related to the advancement of our goals and mission.
  • Represent the organization in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • Provide quality service to clients, volunteers, and staff recognizing their individual contributions to the success of our organization.
  • Participate on committees and special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned. Will work on average 4 surgical days per week. 48 to 50 weeks per year.
