The incumbent is assigned to the PACU/SDSU section of the Office of Nursing Service. The Nurse practices in a complex patient care setting with minimal supervision. Provides episodic nursing care to male and female individuals of various ethnicities and ages (6 months old through geriatric) with a variety of problems which may include specific body systems, specific disease! processes/problems, and specific populations such as womenÂ's! health care or mental health. The PACU/SDU nursing practice involves assessment, analysis, nursing The nurse is accountable as assigned as a primary nurse or team leader for care of a defined group of patients on his/her shift or for an entire episode of care. Based upon education and experience, this nurse may be assigned as a preceptor to new or less experienced staff and/or as shift charge nurse. The PACU/SDSU nurse is cross-trained into three areas of phase I and II recovery and patient intake assessment. The PACU/SDSU nurse maintains certification as a basic life support (BLS) healthcare provider, advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) provider and Pediatric advanced life support (PALS) provider guidelines. BLS and ACLS certification program elements must be in accordance with the American Heart Association guidelines. The nurse will utilize the standards to guide their performance and as measures to sustain for current roles and expectations as well as requireme! nts for promotion to the next grade level. Incumbent maybe assigned to cross cover in other clinical areas within his/her competency level. The nurse will be scheduled for on-call duties as required. Incumbent will be proficient and demonstrate competency and ability to either set up or reprocess Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) as applicable for all equipment for which he/she has been trained.
KEY REQUIREMENTS

Minimum 2 years current experience in PACU/SDSU nursing
Designated and/or Random Drug Testing required
Must pass pre-employment examination
U.S Citizen
AHA Approved BLS and ACLS

English Language Proficiency required DUTIES:
As a Staff Nurse you will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. Duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; provid! ing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical! and/or behavior problems; and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade. Our facility is seeking individuals who possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Provides age-specific care for population defined in Position Summary by adapting care and altering the environment according to knowledge of normal growth and development for each age group, knowledge regarding the different communication needs for each age group, knowledge regarding the safety risks for each age group, and knowledge regarding medications, dosages, and possible side effects for each age group.

  • Prioritizes patient care based on patient acuity and identified needs! . Initiates, plans, implements, evaluates, and appropriately documents patient care based on identified measurable outcomes. Evaluates and documents patientsÂ' responses to interventions and updates the plans of care as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates clinical competence in performing practice-specific and selected specialized competencies appropriate to inpatient nursing care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and safety skills specific to the inpatient nurse, and as follows: emergency preparedness, infection control, hazardous material management, fire and equipment failure emergency management, and utility outage response procedures.
  • Provides and documents patient education programs for groups of patients/families. Establishes patient/family education and/or counseling groups for specific populations with interdisciplinary involvement. Evaluates and documents comprehension and outcomes.
Preferred
  • Certified in Critical Care Nursing or Pos! t Anesthesia Nursing * Recent PACU/SDSU nursing experience in a hospita! l setting * Demonstrated knowledge of disease and treatment processes pertaining to critically ill patients
  • Knowledge of PACU/SDSU nursing scope and standards, policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines such as The Joint Commission* Experience and demonstrated ability to organize patient care assignments/responsibilities within the identified work tour * Skilled communicator with recent experience working closely and directly with Veterans, families, Clinical coordinators, Nurse Manager, and colleagues.
