Position Purpose:
Under the direction of the Manager or Director and in conjunction with the Shared Governance Council, this position is accountable for directing and coordinating the delivery of patient care and the general functioning of the nursing unit. The role of the Nurse Supervisor is to assist in achievement of organizational goals through and with the effort of others. This position supervises in the Operating Room. Must have at least 2 years of circulating experience as well as prior supervisory experience.

Nature and Scope:
This is a clinically focused position that is challenged to maintain a well-organized and functioning Peri-Operative nursing unit that allo! ws for the enhancement of evidenced based practice and continu! ity of patient care throughout the healthcare continuum. The Perioperative Nurse Supervisor coordinates care and collaborates with other professional disciplines as needed, to optimize patient outcomes.

The Perioperative Nurse Supervisor acts as a role model, resource, and coach to all surgical nursing staff to provide ongoing support for professional development, maintenance of the standards of care and quality outcomes.

The Perioperative Nurse Supervisor facilitates professional relationships between surgeons, physicians, nursing and interdisciplinary teams to provide a patient focused plan of care.

The Perioperative Nurse Supervisor requires leadership skills and flexibility to adjust hours to be a resource to all shifts. The Perioperative Nurse Supervisor will be responsible for engaging the nursing staff to provide evidence based practice, promoting desired patient outcomes and ensuring that practice is congruent with the American Nurses Asso! ciation Code of Ethics.

Technological advances dictate that the Perioperative Nurse Supervisor is well versed in surgical procedures common to the operating room and trauma center. In addition, proficiency in the techniques of leadership and adult learning theories are necessary to coordinate the activities of all health team members, and to maintain positively engaged, competent nursing staff.

Other challenges of this position include the ability to recognize dynamics of change and respond appropriately within the context of accepted current theory. Creativity and innovation is expected from the incumbent to help staff function as a high performance work team and to promote staff retention.

The Perioperative Nurse Supervisor is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and families. The Perioperative Nurse Supervisor must demonstrate the knowledge and ! skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensory, psyc! hosocial and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meet the standards of quality as measured by the surgical services unit Competence with Special Populations standard.

Minimum Qualif! ications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Educ! ation:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. BSN or related bachelor's degree preferred, or pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree upon hire.

Experience:
Two years experience as a Staff RN in the OR preferred. prior Supervisory Experience required.

License(s):
Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license.

Certification(s):
Current AHA BLS certification by American Heart Association standards required. Professional certification preferred.

Computer / Typing:
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
