PREFERS at least 1-2 years experience as OR Circulator, current RN license, and current BLS certification for Health Care Provider.

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for identifying patient needs and priorities for care through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. RNs coordinate care between other professional disciplines as needed. Through documentation and oral communication, essential information is shared with health care team members and other customers common to the unit/are! a(s) of assignment. Unit/area-based activities, which contribu! te to a positive work and professional environment, are performed. No neurosurgery, no open heart surgery.

Common Interventions:
Patient advocacy, positioning, protection for sedated and anesthetized patients including identification and protection from safety hazards such as electrical, pressure and minimizing physical exposure to maintain patient confidentiality. Airway protection, assessment and support for patients undergoing conscious sedation. Management of the surgical suite and sterile field. Identification, counting and care of instrumentation and sponges. Skin preparation of surgical site. Assisting anesthesia during induction and extubation. Specimen collection, identification and documentation. Documentation of interventions related to the surgical procedure and the patients response to those interventions. Management and troubleshooting a variety of equipment including but not limited to: video, printers, VCRs audio, computers, light sources! , cautery and nerve stimulator units, microscopes, lasers, patient warming and cooling devices, positioning devices, fluid pumps and suction devices, autologous blood collection devices, mini c-arm and dental x-ray units and processors, multiple electronic and manual positioning devices. Supervision of technical staff in OR suite, conflict management.

Common Patient Conditions:
Elective, urgent and emergent patients needing diagnostic and therapeutic surgical and/or procedural intervention including but not limited to: ENT, endoscopy, urology, gynecology, general, vascular, neurology, plastic, ophthalmology, orthopedics, cardiac or thoracic surgery.
