Positions provide assistance to dentists in the general or specialized treatment of patients in both routine and
emergency procedures in the areas of diagnostic, preventive, restorative, periodontal, endodontic, pedodontic, orthodontic, oral surgery,
and prosthodontic dental care. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this
occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or e! lements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, ski! lls and abilities to perform
at the next level in the series. Ensures all dental cassettes and instruments are processed through sterilization. Ensures all dental
cassettes are complete and in good condition for next use. Ensures all kits are wrapped and labeled with type of cassette, sterilizer number
and the date the cassette was run. Ensures all handpieces are maintained according to manufacturer's instructions. Ensures all cassettes are
properly sterilized and stored according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration Sterilization code. Uses proper infection control
procedures while transporting instruments to sterilization. Dispense dental materials and instruments to dental students upon request using
a dental tracking system. Provide dental assistance to dental students and faculty within School of Dental Medicine clinical programs, as
needed. Assist in all areas of dental treatment including diagnostics, preventive, restorative de! ntistry, periodontics, endodontics,
orthodontics, oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, and prosthodontics when needed. Works Monday thru Friday, varying 8-hour shifts between 8am
to 6pm. *Per the Nevada State Legislature, classified employees are subject to six (6) mandatory unpaid furlough days through
6/30/2014.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or the equivalent and one year of experience working with the
public collecting and recording information and/or explaining and clarifying basic information; OR an equivalent combination of education
and experience.
SPECIAL NOTES
As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher
Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.

284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position mus! t submit to a
pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
All Dental Assistant positions at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) are
required to pass: 1) a background investigation; and 2) a sanction check performed through the National Healthcare Data Bank
(NHDB).
