2. Maintains surgical instruments in the OR suite and ensures their proper transport to instrument room upon completion of the surgical procedure.
4. Prepares the Operating room for cases by setting up table, instruments and supplies according to type of case.
5. Must know and practice the principles of aseptic technique, and maintain an aseptically controlled environment, and keep mayo stands and back tables neat and orderly to facilitate easy access to instruments and to facilitate quick and thorough counts.
6. Should know the proper equipment for each procedure, as well as prepare equipment and supplies necessary to perform each procedure.
7. Should handle instruments and supplies correctly and ensure their proper functioning.
8. Should anticipate surgeon's needs and request additional items from the RN Circulator in sufficient time for the surgical teams use.
9. Should maintain the accuracy of all sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
10. Is responsible for assisting with between case clean-up ! and proceed with preparations for the next case.
11. ! Cleans, assembles and prepares instruments, equipment, and supplies for sterilization when needed.
12. Is responsible for returning equipment to its proper storage area.
13. Clean and stock operating rooms as needed.
14. Assume responsibility for assigned department work
15. Perform related duties as assigned.
16. Assisting in the Orientation, Education and Training of all members
17. of the Surgical Staff
18. Assists all members of the surgical team to facilitate the smooth flow of the surgical procedure.
19. Is aware of EGH Mission and Vision and complies with established Standards of Care and Standards of Practice; demonstrates evidence of continual performance improvement to meet hospital goals.
20. Performs the cleaning, packaging and sterilization of surgical instruments according to established departmental standards of practice.
21. Responsible for all instruments, maintaining ! them in good working order, and assuring the availability of needed instruments to do all surgical cases.
22. Maintains department records, reports and files as required.
23. Responsible for training and teaching of all personnel in the use, care and maintenance of all sterilizers and autoclaves within the department.
24. Responsible for coordinating all maintenance for all sterilizers and autoclaves in the department and notifying the department director of any needed maintenance or repairs.
25. Responsible for doing and recording all Biotesting for the sterilizers and autoclaves in the department.
26. Responsible for scheduling all maintenance of instruments to include but not limited to all the sharpening and replacing of instruments.
27. Responsible for all rental instruments brought in by surgeons for special cases, such as total joints. Responsible for checking in the instruments, cleaning and sterilizing the instr! uments for the case and then washing and processing the instruments for! return of the instruments to the proper company in original condition.
28. Assists the staff in the surgical suite to locate and provide the proper instrument for each case.
29. Responsible for notifying department director of any new instruments needed for the surgical cases. Will bring all ordering information to the department director for approval and final ordering.
30. Maintains instruments in good working order, notifying supervisor of any necessary repairs or maintenance.
31. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
Previous hospital/surgery center experience required.
