Positions provide assistance to dentists in the general or specialized tre! atment of patients in both routine and
emergency procedures in the areas of diagnostic, preventive, restorative, periodontal, endodontic, pedodontic, orthodontic, oral surgery,
and prosthodontic dental care. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little
or no additional training.

The University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) School of Dental Medicine is seeking a Dental Assistant 2. Under
the direction of the Director of Clinical Operations this position supports various departments within the dental school. Duties include:
greets incoming patients in person and over the telephone; check in patients, verifies patient eligibility, inputs patient insurance
information into electronic patient record, collects patient data, schedules dental appointments and confirms future dental appointments.
Reviews patient's electronic yellow card and electronic patient chart to ensure the docume! ntation is complete and complies with school
policies. Ens! ures patients review and sign appropriate consent forms before the start of dental treatment. This position responds to
inquiries from dental students, patients, staff and faculty via telephone, e-mail or in person. This position serves as a cashier; processes
patients cash, checks and credit card payments; collects patient insurance co-payments and completes daily balance sheet of monies
collected. Other duties may include: ensures all dental cassettes and instruments are processed through sterilization. Ensures all dental
cassettes are complete and in good condition for next use. Dispense dental materials and instruments to dental students using dental
tracking system. If necessary, this position provides dental assistant support in all areas of dental treatment. The work schedule for this
position is Monday thru Friday, with varying work shifts not to extend beyond 6:00pm. *Per the Nevada State Legislature, classified
employees are subj! ect to six (6) mandatory unpaid furlough days through June 30, 2014.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Graduation
from high school or equivalent education, successful completion of a recognized one-year dental assistant training program, and one year of
experience working with the public collecting and recording information and/or explaining and clarifying basic information; OR graduation
from high school or equivalent education and one year of clinical experience in a dental practice using four-handed techniques in a wide
range of procedures, collecting and recording patient's medical information, exposing, processing, mounting and labeling radiographs, and
applying dental sterile techniques and infectious control and exposure procedures; OR one year of experience as a Dental Assistant I in
Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

As part of the hiring

tasks.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1) Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety.
