Southwire Technology Ventures collaborates with pioneering startups to build the future of smart power. We invest in and partner with early-stage ventures exploring digital power, smart buildings, electric mobility, and the grid of the future. To build out our team, we are seeking a Venture Associate.
The Venture Associate is responsible for helping generate and screen top-of-the-funnel investment opportunities, identifying new investment themes, and supporting Southwire’s Corporate Venture group in due diligence and fund operations. In this position, the Venture Associate will manage active deals through the investment process, build and maintain a robust pipeline, research emerging trends, and regularly meet with founders and investors.

Key Responsibilities
Dealmaking responsibilities will include:
  • Market research: Perform in-depth secondary and primary research to support new and existing investment thesis development, including producing written research/analysis, sector presentations, and white papers for the corporate venture team and Southwire stakeholders.
  • Deal origination and screening: Identify and source strong investment opportunities in key focus sectors and review a high-volume of inbound pipeline to filter relevant opportunities. Begin developing a personal network of deal leads and relevant ecosystem connections.
  • Due diligence: Support all aspects of the deal review process, including quantitative analysis (e.g., financial modeling and sensitivity analysis), competitor and market scans, customer interviews, and technology reviews. Prepare Investment Memo presentations and documents as necessary for the corporate venture team and Southwire stakeholders.
In addition, the Venture Associate will be pivotal to ensuring strong corporate venture operations, including:
  • Tool management: Manage internal pipeline and portfolio management tools and contribute to internal-facing reporting on portfolio health and investment theses. Coordinate with relevant internal teams (e.g., legal, accounting) through deal processes.
  • Portfolio engagement: Support commercial engagements (e.g., pilots) between portfolio companies and the parent corporation, in addition to utilizing Southwire’s collective networks to drive value for the portfolio.
