The Medical Assistant works cooperatively with the care team to support the vision of the Patient Medical Home. Provides quality appropriate patient care, utilizing customer service skills throughout the patient care continuum. Collects pertinent patient data and coordinates with provider and team for appropriate patient intervention. Will work with the front office to ensure smooth patient flow, waiting room management, and adherence to Southwest Medical Associates (SMA) policies. Resolves moderately complex issues and defers appropriately to supervision. Flexibility and adaptability with regards to work location are key features of the ideal candidate for this floating position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the collection and documentation of patient information to include vital signs, chief compliant, review of medications, allergies, health risk screen information, status of extended care benefits and other services.
- Assists with telephone calls and messages. Documents all calls and actions taken.
- Able to direct patients to the team member that would resolve issues prior to and after their appointment.
- Performs needed screening and testing as ordered by the provider [e.g., ABI, PFT, EKG, BMD].
- Assists in the coordination of outpatient surgeries at the direction of the provider.
- Assists coworkers with duties when requested, to include, but not limited to floating to other areas.
