St. Rose Dominican Hospitals Post anesthesia Care Unit, San Martin provides services to post surgical and post procedural patients. Patient population to include both inpatient as well as outpatients The P.A.C.U. provides special procedures to include post op emergency care such as re intubation, central lines, and chest tubes. The department provides care to pediatric, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations. The P.A.C.U. works closely with Same Day surgery, Pre Assessment Testing, Surgery, Laboratory, and Radiology to develop and implement an individualized patient plan of care updated as the patient’s condition changes, and to facilitate diagnostic treatments.
Job Summary:
The PACU Registered Nurse provides phase 1 recovery care for patients who receive general anesthesia. The registered nurse employs critical thinking to integrate objective data with knowledge gained from an assessment of the subjective experiences of patients. Registered nurses use this critical thinking process to apply the best available evidence and research data to the processes of diagnosis and treatment. Nurses continually evaluate quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and seek to optimize outcomes. Medical/clinical knowledge, technical and clinical skills, clinical judgment, interpersonal skills and communication as indicated in the current Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals are essential components of nursing practice. All registered nurses practice within the scopes and standards of practice set forth by the American Nurses Association. Additional Professional Organizations may be referenced when appropriate to guide practice and standards within the work place.
This position is represented by CNA and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Experience
Minimum - Minimum One (1) year acute care experience as an RN in PACU or Critical Care.
Preferred - Two (2) years PACU experience.
Education
Minimum - Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Preferred - Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Training
Assaultive Behavior Course within 30 days of hire.
Special Skills
Ability to work in a high stress environment and make critical thinking decisions urgently. Basic computer skills.
Licensure
Required: RN = Registered Nurse license from the State of NV Nursing Board.
CT CPRBLS = Basic Life Support CPR.
CT CPRPALS = Pediatric Advanced Life Support CPR.
CT CPRACLS = Advanced Cardiac Life Support CPR.
NIHSS Cert = National Institute of Health Stroke Scale certification within 30 days of hire.
Preferred: ASPAN, CCRN and/or Trauma certification preferred
