The VASNHCS provides primary and secondary care a large geographical area that includes 20 counties in northern Nevada and northeastern California. Approximately 120,000 veterans reside in this region. The Reno campus operates 60 hospital beds, 60 Community Living Center beds. There are four Community Based Outpatient Clinics and one Rural Health Outreach Clinic.

DUTIES:
VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System (VASNHCS) in Reno, NV is seeking a full-time board certified/board eligible Orthopedic Physician Assistant to provide a full range of diagnostic, therapeutic and operative procedures for patients in the outpatient, inpatient and operative settings. Comprehensive orthopedic medical care includes surgical evaluation and peri-operative care, in the Orthopedic clinic, inpatient wards, and emergency department.

Duties include, but are not limited to, independently obtaining medical histories, making diagnosis and treating patients. Additional duties include making arrangements for further care if appropriate, ordering and interpreting lab and diagnostic tests, prescribing medication, providing consultation and assisting the orthopedic surgeon in the operating room. Duties also include shared call coverage.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Physician Assistant Qualifications

In order to qualify an applicant must meet one of the following:

A bachelor's degree from a PA training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); or

Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a bachelor's degree in a health care occupation or a health-related science; or

Graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by the ARC-PA and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as an independent duty medical corpsman, licensed practical nurse! , registered nurse, medical technologist, or medical technician. The du! ration of approved academic training and health care experience must total at least 5 years.

AND

Certification: As of March 12, 1993, certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA) is a requirement for employment. This requirement does not apply to non-certified PAs on VA rolls as of that date.

Physical Standards

: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. This is a designated drug testing position. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
